After the first treatment, when the lice laying eggs are killed, and nits are removed, you will no longer be infectious.

Head lice are transmitted primarily by direct head-to-head contact. Therefore, the risk of infection is highest among children who play or go to school together. Also, the family is at high risk of getting them, as they share the same bed and may use the same brushes, towels, clothes, seats, etc.

Lice are most often found on the back of the head, neck, and around the ears. If you suspect your child has lice but cannot confirm the diagnosis, you can call us, and we can check them for you!

You can identify dead nits by the shape of the capsule — after the larva hatches, it becomes less convex. Dead nits are not shiny, but rather have a duller, more faded color. A live nit makes a characteristic clicking sound when pressed with a fingernail; only dry (dead) nits do not click.

Nits attach to the hair shaft. Hatched shells and dead nits can remain on the hair shaft for months, even after lice treatment, unless they are manually removed. Therefore, finding only nits does not always indicate an active lice infestation.

Itching usually doesn't begin immediately after lice appear on the scalp, as the body needs time to develop an allergic reaction to their saliva. Most people don't experience itching until 4–6 weeks after lice appear. If itching has only just begun, the infestation likely began at least four weeks ago.

One common misconception is that head lice can jump or fly from one person to another. Head lice crawl only, which most often results in infestations through direct head-to-head contact.

Lice have excellent intuition and a keen sense of smell. Scientists discover that lice prefer clean hair and a clean body, both of which smell pleasant. And some gels, shampoos, and conditioners (especially cherry-scented ones) are simply attractive to them.

Lavender or hellebore water; lavender, peppermint, tea tree, eucalyptus, bergamot, and geranium essential oils.

Itching may persist for a week or longer after your treatment. Follow-up care is key to treatment and safety.

Head lice can't survive long on pillows or sheets, brushes, towels, or other things. They can survive without humans for about 48 hours. A live louse that has fallen from a person's head can crawl onto another person who also sleeps on the same pillows or sheets, or be transferred by the towel, brush, or other items.

If you already have head lice, dyeing your hair with ammonia can partially kill the parasites, but not all of them.
